RRB Careers: An Overview

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) of India conducts exams every year for various posts in the railways. The RRB exams offer you job security and other allowances like  Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, Pension Scheme, Medical Benefits, and other Special Allowance. RRB jobs also offer chances of growth and development in your career. There are various posts in railways grouped under groups C and D. You need to attend various exams for recruitment in railways.

RRB NTPC 

Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC)  exams are conducted for recruitment of posts like Junior Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Senior Time Keeper, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Train Clerk, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk,, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Commercial Apprentice, Stationmaster.  These posts have a pay scale ranging from 19,000 to 36,000 as its initial pay according to the ranking of the posts. All of these posts have a great possibility of growth and promotion.

The exam pattern has two stages of computer-based tests. In stage 1, there are three sections such as Mathematics(30 questions), General Intelligence and Reasoning(30 questions), and General Awareness(40 questions). The exam is of 90 minutes duration. After qualifying for the stage 1 exam, you get selected for the stage 2 exam where there are the same three sections but different weightage.  Those who have qualified the stage 2, get a selection to Typing skill test and then document verification. In the case of candidates who have opted for the traffic assistant and station master posts, they have to go through an aptitude test after clearing the stage 2 exam and then document verification.  

RRB ALP  

RRB Assistant Loco Pilot(ALP) exams are conducted for the recruitment of assistant loco pilots who can then be promoted to loco pilots. The candidates who have passed the matriculation can apply for the RRB alp exam. The exam has Arithmetic, Reasoning, General Awareness, General Science, General Intelligence, and Technical Ability as the sections. After passing this test, there will be a mental ability test, medical fitness, and certificate verification for the recruitment of ALP 

RRB JE

Another important exam conducted by RRB is for the recruitment of the Junior Engineer (JE) post. This exam is conducted to recruit candidates to the posts like a junior engineer, 

Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) and Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant (CMA). The candidates aged between 18 to 30 years who have engineering graduated from a recognized university can apply for the job. There are three stages for the selection of the candidates, like two computer-based tests, clinical examination, and certificate verification. The RRB JE posts are provided with a salary between Rs.35000 – Rs.11200.

The RRB JE exam has two stages of computer-based tests. In stage 1, there are questions from four sections, namely, Mathematics(30 questions), General Intelligence & Reasoning(25 questions), General Awareness(15 questions), General Science(30 questions) . After qualifying stage 1, you will be qualified to attend stage 2. In stage 2, there are four sections for the exam,namely, General Awareness(15 questions), Physics & Chemistry(15 questions), Basics of Computers & Applications(10 questions), Basics of Environment & Pollution Control(10 questions), Technical Abilities(100 questions). After qualifying stage 2, you have to go through the document verification process where your educational qualification details, caste certificates, and other details filled in the application are verified.

RRB Group D

ALP, NTPC, JE posts come under the group c category. There are some other posts that come under the group d category which are the non-desk jobs, like track maintainer, and Assistants in Workshop, C&W (Carriage and Wagon)ART (Accident Relief Train) Maintenance Bridge, Electrical Operations, TL & AC (Train Lights & AC) Loco Shed (Diesel), Depot (Stores), Depot Material Superintendent Grade I, Hospital Assistant, Signal & Telecom(S&T), TRD (Traction Distribution), etc. These posts are mainly for taking care of the assets and keeping accurateness of the railway properties. There will be promotion and growth for this sector too. 

There will be a computer-based test with a duration of 90 minutes, physical efficiency tests, and document verification for these recruitments. The exam pattern will contain four sections, namely, general science(25 questions), mathematics(25 questions), general intelligence and reasoning(30 questions), general awareness, and current affairs(20 questions). With proper preparation and strategies, the group d posts can be cracked. Fr PwBD, there is relaxation in time and is extended up to 120 minutes.

RRB Paramedical

The paramedical recruitments are done for filling the posts like pharmacist, staff Nurse, X-Ray Technician, Physiotherapist, Dental Hygienist, ECG Technician, Haemodialysis Technician, Hospital Assistant, Housekeeping Assistants (Medical), Lab Assistant Grade II, Radiographer, Lab Technician, Staff Nurse, Extension Educator, Lab Assistant Grade III, Laboratory Superintendent, Optometrist, Radiographer, Pharmacist Grade II, Speech Therapist, Perfusionist, Lady Health Visitor, Dietician, Dialysis Educator, and Health and Malaria Inspector Grade III, etc. 

There is a computer-based test with a duration of 90 minutes, document verification, and medical examination for the selection of the candidates. The exam pattern will contain 10 questions of one mark from each of the three sections, General awareness, General Intelligence & General Arithmetic and  General Science, and 70 questions of one mark from the Professional Ability section. In the professional ability section, the candidate’s professional eligibility is tested and the questions differ for each post. The questions asked for XRay Technician and Staff Nurse will be different as per their profession.
